Macedonian dense woods are home of many kinds of birds and mammals, like: bear, wolf, lynx, wild boar, dear, etc…Wild rivers and unpolluted lakes host rich biodiversity and endemic species of fish and plants. Observe and explore endemic vegetation, birds and insects and learn their characteristics. Experience the survival in the wildness, collect wood and forestry products to prepare lunch, camp in the open.

This tour offers interactive education and observation of wild life in Macedonia through very intensive activities in the nature, like: Hiking, diving, wild game tracing with expert guides. Active involvement in the activities of the specialized institutions for raising and protection of different wild species.

Day 1
Skopje(or Tirana) – Struga – Оhrid
Transfer from Skopje Airport (or Tirana). Meeting with our guide and continue. Arrival at Struga before noon.

Struga:From the mythical Enhilion to the World’s town of poetry. A visit to the natural-science museum , see the endemic Ohrid flora and fauna. Getting familiar with the wildlife of the region. Learning about the specific life of the endemic Ohrid trout, eel and other lake fish. A stroll through the Struga bazaar. We’ll see the Black Drim coming out from the Ohrid Lake from the famous Bridge of Poetry. Optional lunch at local restaurant. Continue to Ohrid.

Ohrid:Check in the hotel. Visit of the Institute of Hydro-biology. The Institute takes care about the sustainability of the biodiversity by making constant researches and implementing different measures to keep the lake clean and to protect all species living in and around it. Introduction, getting familiar with the different practices to protect the wildlife in the lake and the surrounding area. See the reproduction center for the trout and the eel.
Underwater safari at lake Ohrid: Underwater archaeology, explore the lost settlements and remains from the past. Explore the underwater lake life. Introduction, Diving lesson, Diving and exploring the underwater life.
Late afternoon guided walking tour, sightseeing of the old town core: Old Baklan architecture stylled houses, Byzantine churches and art, Local crafts, Hand made souvenirs…Dinner by the lake shore with fish and local specialties. Learning about the traditional way to prepare the fish. …Overnight at the hotel in Ohrid.

Day 2
Оhrid – Prespa – Bitola
Breakfast. Check out of the hotel, and drive along the lake coast, enjoying the beautiful landscapes and picturesque villages. Enter the National park Galichica.

National park Galichica: Mount Galichica is a perfect representative of a Dinaric carst, offering breath-taking views of both lakes. Characteristic flora and fauna of typical Dinaric karst. Drive across the mountain from Ohrid Lake to Prespa Lake. Learning about the local flora and fauna, endemic species and about the national parks in Macedonia.. Short coffee-refreshment break on the shore of lake Prespa. Continue to the island Golem Grad by boat.

Golem Grad Island: The only island in Macedonia, once a seat of the legendary Macedonian Tsar Samuel. Isolated and untouched nature. An unique “pocket jungle” that is a home of rare animals and birds, mutated Mediterranean vegetation. Small boat ride to the island. Trekking tour around the island. Explore the medieval archaeological reamainings hidden in the Mediterranean jungle. See rare tortoises, lizards and birds that live at the island. Continue the boat ride across the lake. Different local and rare birds living in their natural habitat. Pelicans, cormorans and other lake birds are specially protected at the Bird reservee Ezerani. Bird watching and taking photos. Learn about the life of the pelicans and cormorans. Optional lunch or picnic. Relax time on the beach and departure to Bitola.

Bitola: Check in the hotel. On foot sightseeing: Tthe old town core with 19th century Neoclassical styled houses, monumental Ottoman buildings, St. Dimitri Cathedral. Visit of the Old Bazaar, one of the largest 18-19th century market places with picturesque narrow streets and shops, old traditional crafts Dinner at a typical restaurant: Tasting different types of salads, starters and traditional local meals. Evening walk down the main pedestrian street Sirok Sokak, maybe sit for a drink and enjoy the rich night life. Overnight at the hotel in Bitola.

Day 3
Bitola – Nidze
Early Breakfast (or lunch-packet). Check out of hotel and leave Bitola driving to Mariovo region. At dawn break approaching the large and remote area of Nidze Mountain. Great woods that are home of many kinds of birds and mammals. Wild rivers rich with fish and deep canyons.

Visit of Nidze Hunting reservee: Off-road drive by 4×4 vehicles deep in the mountain. Hiking and tracing different animals, escorted by the reservee rangers. Learn about the characteristics of the life of different species. See endemic vegetation, birds and insects. Lunch in the wildiness: Find a proper place, collect wood and cook own meal. Continue to the wild game reproduction center.

Visit of Nidze Repro Center: The Reproduction center hosts European deer and other big and medium game. See deers, wild sheep, wild boar in their natural habitat. Introduction and learning about the purpose and way of protection and sustainable development. Hiking and exploring around, escorted by the reservee rangers. Observing the animals and learning about the specifics of their life.
Dinner at the hunters lodge at the mountain with wild game specialties, prepared the hunter’s way. Watching and helping to prepare the dinner. Socializing with the stuff, telling stories and exchanging experience. Possible night off-road tour to the observation tower, to watch night movement of the wild game. Overnight at the lodge.

Day 4
Nidze – Skopje Airport(Tabanovce)
Breakfast. Check out of the lodge. Drive back to civilization passing by several rural settlements and villages. See authentic rural architecture unchanged in the last two centuries. Possible ontheway stop for refreshment at one of them and have a drink at the local shop.
Continue to the Airport (Skopje, Thessaloniki) or towards Serbia ( or Kosovo).

End of program.

Museum of Nature Struga: A complete collection of specimen of the flora and fauna from Ohrid region. Chance to get familiar with the wildlife of the region and learn about the specific life of the endemic Ohrid trout, eel and other lake fish.

UNESCO CITY-Ohrid: Situated on the shores of Lake Ohrid, the town of Ohrid is one of the oldest human settlements in Europe. It has the oldest Slav University and numeruos Byzantine churches dating from the 11th to the end of the 14th century.
Ohrid Lake, one of the oldest and deepest in the world, hides many mysteries. Also a Unesco Natural treasure, its crystal waters are home of the endemic Ohrid trout.

Institute of Hydro-biology: The Institute takes care about the sustainability of the biodiversity by making constant researches and implementing different measures to keep the lake clean and to protect all species living in and around it. Introduction and sightseeing by expert bio-engineer, getting familiar with different practices to protect the wildlife in the lake and the surrounding area. See the reproduction center for the trout and the eel. Possible take active part in some protection practices.

Diving at the Bay of Bones: Underwater archaeology, explore the lost settlements and remains from the past. Explore the underwater lake life.

National Park Galichica: Perfect representative of a Dinaric carst, rising up to 2.250 m.asl between lakes Ohrid and Prespa. Driving across the mountain offers a look at the local flora and fauna and breath-taking views of both lakes.

Boat ride across lake Prespa & Golem Grad island: The island is part of the National park Galichica. It is the only island in Macedonia, once a seat of the legendary Macedonian Tsar Samuel, now home of rare mamals, lizards and birds. Isolated and untouched nature for centuries turned the mediterranean vegetation to an unique “pocket jungle”. The boat ride across lake Prespa offers a chance for a great photo-session and observing the pelicans, cormorans and other lake birds.
Bitola: Having a coffee on Sirok Sokak Street is more than a century long tradition, which together with the rich night life, reflects the “good old bohemic times”.

Reproduction center: The center hosts European deer and other big and medium game. See deers, wild sheep, wild boar in their natural habitat. Learn about the purpose and way of protection of wildlife and sustainable development. Observethe animals and take active part in their feeding and maintainence of the center.
