Over 70% of the Macedonian territory is mountainous, covered by large forests, crystal water lakes and wild rivers running through deep canyons. Macedonian National parks cover large area of these mountains, protecting the untouched wilderness and rich biodiversity. Among others, they are home of the Big Five European mammals: the Bear, the Wolf, the Wild Boar, the Deer and the Lynx.
Hike across the most beautiful Macedonian mountains, explore the endemic flora and fauna, take a boat to discover the hidden “jungle” island of Golem Grad, visit traditional villages and learn about the rural and urban culture from the friendly locals.

Day 1: Introduction and acclimatization – Mavrovo National Park
Your adventure begins at Skopje Airport, with a warm welcome by our agency’s staff. After about 1,5 hours drive, we’ll check in at our hotel in the heart of Mavrovo National park. Time to relax, or for individual exploring, possible trekking or cycling around Lake Mavrovo.
Day 2: Rural and Cultural Heritage – Mavrovo NP & Ohrid (UNESCO)
Hike on the slopes of mount Bistra, up to Medenica peak (2.250 m.asl). Chance to visit a traditional sheepfold, taste the local cheese and learn from the Sheppard how it’s made. Visit of the picturesque village of Galicnik, meet the locals and hear about the centuries old custom ceremony of Galicnik wedding. A scenic drive to Ohrid, passing through wild canyons, lakes and rural countryside. Evening walk at the old town, to explore the UNESCO’s cultural heritage and solve the mystery of handmade “Ohrid Pearls.”
Day 3: Dinaric Alps and Mediterranean Jungle – Galicica NP
Climb peak Tomoros (2.540 m.asl), on mount Galicica and enjoy the magnificent panoramic view of both lakes, Ohrid and Prespa. Continue to Lake Prespa and sail on fisherman boats to the island Golem Grad. Explore the medieval archaeological reamainings hidden in the Mediterranean jungle. See rare and mutated species that live in this isolated eco-system. In Brajcino village stay at private guesthouses, and experience the rural living and traditions. Dine with a local family to taste real domestic food and drinks. Optional adventure: Night bear watch expedition! Park Ranger escorted 4×4 transfer before sunset and stay in the viewing hide (with hot drinks and snacks) – a best chance to see the Dinaric Pindus Brown Bear in the wild!
Day 4: The Southest Alpine Mountain – Pelister National Park
Hike on the Western slopes of Pelister National park, up to the glacial lake Golemo Ezero (2.218 m.asl). Explore the characteristic alpine vegetation on the interpreted mountain trail. Stay at the mountain hut, relax by the lake shore and exchange experience with the local mountaineers.
Day 5: Pre-historic Nature – Glacial Remains and Molika Pine
Concord peak Pelister (one of the highest in the Balkans, 2.601 m.asl). See the remains from the glacier period – the two mountain lakes and the impressive “stone rivers”, the rare 5 needle pre-historic type of pine – Molika and the endemic alpine flora and fauna. Enjoy the night in Bitola, with traditional food and live music…and the vibrant night life on the romantic Sirok Sokak Street.
Day 6: Farewell day – Skopje
The adventure ends with a drop on the airport. Our guide will assist for checking in and farewell the guests.
