Early morning start from your hotel and drive to the Prespa region and the western slopes of National Park Pelister. There, accompanied by a park ranger, you will get a fair chance to track and see brown bears and other large mammals in their natural habitat. Then, we will continue with a bird watching tour – sailing on Lake Prespa and the island of Golem Grad. Optionally, the tour can be extended with an overnight at Brajcino village, with more opportunities for wildlife viewing and rural exploration.
The first day of the adventure begins with an early morning off-road drive up the western slopes of Mount Pelister. The first destination is the viewing hut, where the park ranger accompanying us will inform you about some of the animals that live within the National Park. From there, we will begin out trek – following the park ranger up the higher slopes of the mountain. Along the way we will stop to inspect one of the wildlife cameras placed in the forest and maybe see what animals it has taken pictures of. While trekking with the ranger we will follow his directions and keep noise to a minimum so that we do not spook any of the wildlife.
Optionally, the adventure can be extended to a second day. In this case, we will overnight at a local guest house at a village around Lake Prespa. Chance to taste a home cooked meal prepared with locally grown ingredients.
On the second day of the adventure, we will head out on a bird watching expedition around Lake Prespa. Taking a boat across the lake is one of the best ways to catch a glimpse of the pelicans and cormorants that inhabit the lake and nest around the island of Golem Grad. We will beach on the island and explore its Mediterranean jungle.
On the way back, we will be able to stop at some of the local villages around Lake Prespa for some relaxed rural exploration, or continue on another wildlife trek.
